Nuams Presents Sessions at Drupal Government Day
The New Amsterdam Ideas team had the great pleasure of presenting three sessions at Drupal Government Day on May 18th, 2012 in Washington D.C. The first session, entitled, “Adopting, Developing and Deploying Drupal Sites for New York City and Other Local Governments” was hosted by our CEO, Andrew Hoppin. Andrew discussed our work over the past year involving the building of two Drupal sites, one CiviCRM implementation and one Drupal technology assessment for three different New York City government agencies. Andrew relayed what we learned about what it takes in a large local government like New York City to successfully pitch, develop and deliver sites, and then ultimately empower civil servants to take them over.
Our second session was hosted by our CTO, Sheldon Rampton, and entitled, “Open Sourcing Government Drupal Projects; or why has no one else implemented the Federal IT Dashboard.” Sheldon reported on what went right and what went wrong in the Federal government’s effort to open-source the Drupal-based Federal IT Dashboard, which has not successfully engendered reuse/reimplementation by other governments. This presentation was based on research completed by New Amsterdam Ideas for the New York State Department of Transportation.
New Amsterdam Ideas’ third session, “CiviCRM for Government” was hosted by our Project Manager, Krista Brenner. Over the past two years New Amsterdam Ideas has deployed CiviCRM+Drupal as a solution for large scale Constituent Case Management for government entities in New York City and New York State. Krista examined the pros and cons of our experience with CiviCRM + Drupal as an open platform alternative to Salesforce, SugarCRM, Microsoft Dynamics, etc. for government CRM use cases.
